Calacatta Hermitage Porcelain UK by Infinity Surfaces
Calacatta Hermitage MB17 by Infinity Surfaces is one of the most requested marble effect porcelains in the UK range, and the reason is the veining. Grey and golden veins run across a clean white background, which gives it the warmth that plain white Calacattas can lack.
It is a large format porcelain slab rather than natural stone, so it behaves in a way marble cannot. No sealing, no etching from lemon or wine, and a surface that takes daily use in a kitchen without changing.

What Calacatta Hermitage looks like
The base is white. The veining is a mix of soft grey and gold, heavier and more directional than a Statuario and warmer than a Calacatta Oro. On a large top the vein can be positioned deliberately, and on a mitred edge it can be run over the corner so the pattern continues down the side.
Because the slabs are large format, a worktop or an island can usually be made from a single sheet with no joint across the run. That is the main visual difference between porcelain at this size and a tiled or slab stone equivalent.
Slab sizes, thicknesses and finishes
Calacatta Hermitage is produced in three thicknesses, in satin and polished finishes.
- 6mm at 3200 x 1600mm, rectified, so the full sheet is the working area. Satin and polished
- 12mm at 3240 x 1620mm unrectified, with a working area of 3200 x 1600mm. Satin and polished
- 20mm at 3240 x 1590mm unrectified, with a working area of about 3200 x 1570mm. Satin and polished, produced with Vein Tech and random veining rather than bookmatched pairs
The 6mm sheets suit walls, splashbacks and cladding where weight matters. The 12mm and 20mm are the worktop and table thicknesses. The rest of the Infinity porcelain slab range follows the same sizing.
Calacatta Hermitage porcelain or Calacatta marble
Most people looking at Calacatta Hermitage have looked at natural Calacatta marble first. The honest comparison is this.
Marble is unique slab to slab, and that is its appeal. It is also porous. It needs sealing, it stains, and it etches where it meets acids, which is the failure that catches people out in a kitchen rather than a bathroom.
Calacatta Hermitage is heat, scratch and stain resistant, needs no sealing and will not etch. The trade off is that the veining repeats across a run of slabs rather than being one of a kind, which is exactly why it is worth coming to see full worktop slabs rather than specifying from a sample.
Where Calacatta Hermitage is used
- Kitchen worktops and islands, usually 12mm or 20mm with a mitred edge
- Splashbacks, often matched to the worktop from the same slab
- Bathroom walls, vanity tops and shower surrounds
- Feature walls and fire surrounds
- Dining and coffee table tops

Calacatta Hermitage FAQs
What is Calacatta Hermitage porcelain?
Calacatta Hermitage MB17 is a large format porcelain slab made by Infinity Surfaces in Italy. It reads as white Calacatta marble, with grey and golden veining running across the surface. Clay International is the sole UK distributor and holds it in stock.
What sizes does Calacatta Hermitage come in?
Three thicknesses. In 6mm the slab is 3200 x 1600mm and rectified, so the full sheet is the working area. In 12mm it is 3240 x 1620mm unrectified, giving a working area of 3200 x 1600mm. In 20mm it is 3240 x 1590mm unrectified, giving a working area of about 3200 x 1570mm.
Can Calacatta Hermitage be used for kitchen worktops?
Yes. The 12mm and 20mm thicknesses are the usual choice for worktops and islands. The surface is heat, scratch and stain resistant and needs no sealing. Most fabricators mitre the edge so the top reads as a thicker slab.
Is Calacatta Hermitage bookmatched?
The 20mm is produced with Vein Tech and carries random veining, so it is not supplied as bookmatched pairs. If you want a mirrored pair across an island or a feature wall, it is worth talking through the options before you specify.
Where can I see Calacatta Hermitage in the UK?
Clay International hold full slabs at the London and Manchester warehouses. Viewing is by appointment, so you can see the whole 3.2 metre sheet and how the gold veining runs across it before you commit.
